Shaky and Stabilised GoPro Video Comparison

GoPro video too shaky? This is a video comparison of an original GoPro video on a helmet mount (left) against the same video produced with Cyberlink Powerdirector 9's Video Stabilizer (right) at 50%.

Notice there is hardly any loss in quality and the stabilised video on the right is much smoother.

Sunset skatepark session

Just had an epic sunset shoot down at Llanfairfechan skatepark. The sun was setting over the island of Anglesey and Harry Williams was pulling off some very sick riding. It doesn't get much better than great natural light to work with and someone with the talent to pull off the right tricks just when you need them!

Some ideas in the pipeline that could involve a remote control helicopter, some GoPro cams and downhill mountain biking... watch this space!

Shooting in the Alps!

Been in the French Alps the past week with the family testing out all my equipment in the rain, mud and wind.
The Nikon D7000 was everything I hoped for and it withstood downhill mountain biking, a D+ Via Ferrata climb and all the extras nature had to throw at it.
I couldn't get enough of my Rokinon 8mm Fisheye, it was just brilliant for both photo and video, super sharp and fun to play with.
My Dakine Mission Photo backpack was really great, keeping all my camera gear secure and dry as well as having loads of space for extras, including clipping my Camlink tripod onto it. Having the rear zip access to the bag is ingenious, making it much quicker to get access to my camera and all the lenses.

Things I've learned from all this outdoors shooting:
- Take extra batteries and memory cards
- A remote flash and a wireless shutter release for the sport element of outdoor shooting would be very useful
- Always carry some form of lens cleaner and lens cloth!

Using 500px!

Recently discovered and just signed up for 500px.com, a great website for creating photography portfolios, check them out. I've now upgraded for a mere $50 a year which allows me to now point my 500px site to my own homepage www.jon-w.com! Easy!

More websites!

Found a few more great websites:

http://nikonrumors.com/ -  Keeps me up to date with all the latest Nikon gossip

http://dpreview.com/ - Probably the most in-depth website I've seen for reviews on digital cameras

And http://thedailywh.at/ - A really great way to procrastinate!

New bike = more photo and video opportunities

So I invested in a new mountain bike and it's arrived and waiting for me back at Revolution Bikes in Wales. The bike is the 2011 Trek Scratch 8 and it's a beauty:

Apart from obviously wanting to get as much use out of it as possible on the trails, having a new bike will also encourage me to get out there and shoot more video and pics, meet more people and add more to the portfolio.

Bring on July and the Portes du Soleil in the Alps!
